Memory Cards

What is the read/write speed of the EasyMemory products?
Our products adhere 100% to the format specification.
The microSD™ and SDHC™ cards 4 GB and above will be rated at SDA2.0 class 4 devices.
"The directory or file cannot be created" message appears when I copy files
This message will appear if the device is formatted in FAT. The maximum number of viewable files and folders in the root directory has been reached.
To store more data, you need to delete one file, create a new folder, and then transfer about half of files into this new folder.
Or reformat your device to FAT32 file system.
My memory card does not work
- Try again with another card reader under Windows.
- Under My Computer, right-click the card's removable disk icon and select
Properties > Tools, under Error-checking, click Check Now.
The digital camera can not read my memory card after I formatted it using a PC
Many digital cameras only support FAT file system.
Reformat your memory card using FAT.
What is "X" speed rating?
"X" speed is a performance indicator. The device measures throughput using read/write values in MB/sec.

Throughput refers to the amount of data that can be transferred to/from the host to the device.

To determine the actual MB per second, multiply the value of "X" by 150 KB/sec.

For example:
Value of X = 150 KB/sec.
133X = 133(multiplier) x 150KB/sec = 20 MB/sec
Flash memory devices performance

Flash memory devices are typically measured and labeled in 3 ways.

  1. Throughput refers to the amount of data that a device can transfer to/from the host in a given time period.
A device measures throughput using read/write values in MB/sec.
  2. A device may be measured using the "X" factor.
        - Value of X = 150 KB per second
        - A value of 60X = 60(multiplier) * 150KB/sec = 9.0 MB/sec
  3. A device may also be measured using Class 2, Class 4, or Class 6 (applies to SD card only).
The SD Speed Class Ratings specify a minimum sustained write speed for SD/SDHC cards
        (Class 2: 2 MB/s; Class 4: 4 MB/s; Class 6: 6 MB/s).

NOTE: Performance may vary based upon host device.
What's a SDHC™ card?

SDHC (also known as SD 2.0) is the latest Secure Digital Card format that is FAT32-compliant.
SDHC cards are designed to support capacity from 4 GB to 32 GB.

SDHC cards are divided into 3 speed classes, which guarantee a minimum transfer speed:
- Class 2 (2MB/sec)
- Class 4 (4MB/sec)
- Class 6 (6MB/sec)

SDHC cards will ONLY be recognized by devices that support the SDHC formats.

Devices that support the SDHC are backward compatible with type SD 1.0 and SD 1.1.

What should I do when my memory card is not working with my mobile devices?
  1. Make sure the devices can fully support the memory card.
  2. Format the memory card with your mobile devices.
A "There is not enough space on the disk" message appears when I try to copy a 4 GB file to my memory card
The issue is caused by a 4 GB file size restriction for FAT32 file system.
To resolve this issue, reformat your device as NTFS.

1. Backup all your data
2. Open Windows Explorer
3. Click My Computer
4. Right-click the drive letter representing your memory card
    and select Format
5. Under File system, select NTFS.
6. Click Start.

WARNING: Formatting a product in NTFS will make it unable to be written to on a Mac computer.
Most Mac computers can read NTFS, but not write.
Formatting a memory card using PC

All memory cards are pre-formatted. If you need reformat it, follow these steps:

WARNING: REMEMBER TO BACKUP ALL YOUR DATA BEFORE FORMATTING!

  1. Double-click My Computer
  2. Right-click the drive letter representing your memory card

WARNING: BE SURE YOU SELECT THE CORRECT DRIVE LETTER!

  3. Select Format
  4. Select a file system type
  5. Click Start.

Note: The Windows XP format utility used for memory cards with capacity of 64 MB and higher defaults to FAT32.

Many cameras and portable devices do not work with if the card is formatted as FAT32 or NTFS file system.
One of the following errors may occur if your device does not support FAT32 or NTFS:

    - Error message asking to re-format the flash card.
    - Error message that the flash card is not formatted.
    - Error message indicating that the card is anomalous.

To resolve the above error, backup your data and reformat your memory card with FAT16 file system.

If the error persists, re-format the memory card using your camera or portable device.
Formatting using a MAC computer
WARNING: Formatting will erase all data on the device.
Back up all your data before proceeding.

NOTE: When using a memory card, it is recommended to reformat the card in the camera, MP3 player, or other devices that you are using it with, instead of formatting it through your computer.

To format a device on your MAC OS X:

6. Verify Volume Format is set to MS-DOS file system, then click Erase. This should reinitialize the disk.
My SDHC™ card cannot be read by the camera
If your SDHC™ card capacity is 4 GB or higher, contact the camera manufacturer to verify that your camera supports SDHC.
Not all cameras support SDHC cards.

If your SDHC™ card capacity is 2 GB and below, format your SD card using your camera.
For instruction on how to format the card using your camera, refer to the camera user's manual.
Some pictures on my card appear corrupted or missing. What can I do?
Some data on your card may be corrupted by abrupt power loss.

Do not format the card using the NTFS file system.
Some cameras may not support NTFS.
